Why correct fitting matters

We understand the problems that can be hidden behind a neat-looking installation.

A rail can look secure on the day it is fitted but still be poorly supported beneath the surface. A ramp can be placed in the wrong position and become a trip point. A key safe can be difficult for a carer to reach or fixed to an unsuitable surface.

We consider the product, the location, the wall or threshold construction, the daily routine and the manufacturer’s guidance. We then use an appropriate fitting method and check the finished item before we leave.

  1. 1Understand the everyday difficulty
  2. 2Check the location and surrounding space
  3. 3Select a suitable product
  4. 4Use an appropriate fixing method
  5. 5Test the finished installation and explain the result

Folding support rails

A folding support rail needs more than a tidy finish—it needs the right support behind it.

Folding support rails can offer useful support beside a toilet while folding away when space is needed. Because someone may rely on the rail while sitting down, standing up or transferring, the wall and fixing method need careful consideration.

Depending on the wall construction, plasterboard or lightweight partitions may require a different fixing approach, additional reinforcement or suitable structural backing before a rail can be fitted correctly. We assess the location and explain practical options before work starts.

Every property is different. Final suitability depends on the rail specification, wall construction and conditions found at the property.

A rail is only as secure as the surface and fixing method behind it.

Recognised products. Clear protection.

For safety-related adaptations, customers deserve to know what has been fitted and who stands behind it. Where appropriate, we specify established manufacturer products with clear technical information, fitting guidance and warranty terms.

Selected AKW products installed in eligible domestic settings may carry a conditional manufacturer warranty of up to 10 years, subject to the individual product terms, correct installation and the manufacturer’s conditions.

How it works

Booked in three simple steps

1. Tell us what is difficult

Describe the issue in your own words. You do not need to know the name of the product.

2. Check your postcode

Confirm whether we cover the installation address and see whether a suitable visit is available.

3. Fitted and checked

Your installer arrives with ID, installs and tests the work, tidies up and explains the finished result. Your booking is confirmed once an installer accepts it.
